About Debbie and 'Subtle® Inspired Yoga'

Hello and welcome

I am Debbie, a yoga teacher, retired NHS manager, mum of three and grandmother of six.  My path to yoga wasn't always smooth or serene.  It was forged through years of stress, self doubt and physical pain - it's exactly that journey that fuels my passion for helping others heal.

As a working mum in a demanding management healthcare management role, I often put myself last.  The pressure built until my body literally gave way - Perthes disease meant that stress caused my hip to collapse beneath me.  It was a wake up call I couldn't ignore.

I also carry a family history of osteoporosis, and as I grew older, I knew it was part of my story too.  I've spent years researching how to slow its progression - not only for myself, but for my daughters and grand daughters.  Yoga became my anchor: a way to build strength, protect my bones and reclaim control.

I also have a cleft lip and as a teenager it made me shrink into myself, convinced I'd never be seen or chosen.  Later, as I climbed the career ladder, I feared it would make others question my capability.  Yoga helped me feel at home in my body.  It helped me rewrite the story I told myself.  It taught me how to breathe through overwhelm and meet myself with compassion instead of criticism.

Today, I teach yoga, for people who are carrying a lot, in their bodies, in their busy lives and in their hearts.  My classes are grounded in compassion, resilience and the belief that healing is possible - no matter where you begin.

You will find steadiness.

Breath.  Strength that grows slowly.

You will find a space where your body is welcomed exactly as it is.

You are invited to move in ways that support your bones, your nervous system, your whole self.

If you are considering going to a yoga class for the first time

then you are joining over 460,000 people in the UK who have done the same thing.

Welcome to a really great way to move and to look after your body.  If you are looking for yoga that meets you where you are, with warmth, science based practices and a deep respect for your lived experience, I would love to practice with you.

I support both NHS  personnel and their patients through accessible, compassionate yoga. My work reaches the NHS and Social Services in two ways:

• Patients are referred to me through Social Prescribing, where I offer gentle, supportive classes designed to help with stress, mobility, pain, and overall wellbeing.

• NHS personnel join my online training sessions, where I provide practical tools for managing pressure, restoring balance, and building resilience in demanding roles.

Whether you are an NHS professional carrying the weight of a demanding job, a and supporting others every day, or a patient looking for a gentle way to improve your health and wellbeing, my classes are designed to meet you where you are. No pressure. No perfection. Just space to move, breathe, and feel supported.

Yoga can make a meaningful difference — in your body, your mind, and your daily life. I’d love to welcome you into Circle‑Yoga.

I am a life long learner and I continue to deepen my study of yoga constantly.  I have completed 183 hours of training with Subtle® Yoga teacher Kristine Weber and a further 91 hours with other teachers including Dr Yogi (Andrew McGonigle), Dawn Wright and Laura Green.  I now include Subtle® Yoga practices within each of my classes. Subtle® Yoga is very accessible so is ideal for beginners.  It is also good for people who have practiced yoga and want something slower and more mindful.

This slower type of yoga can help with nervous system resilience.  What does that mean?  It helps with the ups and downs of everyday life. It enables your own intrinsic healing to take place.  It activates the parasympathetic nervous system which opens up the 'tend & befriend' behaviour.  It improves physiological balance.  The slow mindful practice builds interoception, or becoming more aware of how your body feels. Where your emotions lie, your places of comfort and discomfort.  This then leads to feelings of peace, connectivity and unity.

This practice of yoga is not simply about stretch and workout but feelings of being nurtured, self-regulated and peaceful.  It enables you to train your nervous system and slow down.
Slow, mindful yoga can be part of the equation to address long term health conditions naturally. Long term health conditions include diabetes, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and fibromyalgia.

I am also very aware of osteopenia and osteoporosis, so there is an

emphasis on safe spinal work. I recognize that many people are developing osteoporosis as they age and the classes are aimed to support this.

I have osteoporosis and I use yoga, along with diet and resistance training, to enable my bones to remain as strong as possible.

I aim to bring yoga to a wide range of people, people who would not normally have thought they could participate, people living with Long Term Health Conditions including asthma and diabetes.  People who want to develop their muscle tone after taking weight loss medication, (GLP-1 medication).  Subtle® Inspired Yoga enables the body to experience a wide range of functional movement, strengthening and

stretching the body for its day to day activities.

I am also passionate about cycling and I hold specialist workshops for cyclists, especially women cyclists.  I have been trained by British Cycling and the ‘Breeze’ project to encourage women to cycle.

Do contact me direct if you wish to learn more about yoga for cycling.

If you were to ask me what my main theme is in life now that I am retired and I have moved to being self-employed as a yoga teacher, it would be fun.  Fun with my children and grandchildren, fun with the people I meet in my classes, fun with my fellow yoga teachers, fun riding my bike.
